Chiang Mai, or New City, was founded by King Mangrai in 1296, its location on the Ping River and on the trading routes contributing to its enduring prominence. Faded rose-red brick walls and a tree-shaded moat surround the city, classic architecture defines the temples, and distinctive arts and crafts descend from earlier eras.
Chiang Mai International Airport has direct flights from South Korea, Singapore, Hong Kong, Malaysia, Vietnam, Taiwan, and Japan, and connecting flights from Bangkok, Hua Hin, Samui, and Phuket. The airport is 5.5 kilometres from the hotel, a journey that takes about 15 minutes.
Chiang Mai railway station is a century old and has a regular service of around 10 trains every day from Bangkok. Eastern & Oriental Express trains also travel here. The station is on the eastern side of the Ping River, 2.5 kilometres and an average 10 minutes from the hotel.
A private limousine service is available for transfers to and from the airport and the railway station. Transfer is by electrical vehicle.
Chiang Mai operates an efficient taxi service easily available at the airport and railway station, and for travel around the city and its environs. Fares are accepted in cash for Thai baht, and via a QR code.
